Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

An odd, foreign-looking dragon, Is Elsewhere sports a jocular half-moustache on his snout and wears a battered "jacket" (more like tarp with holes) and a timepiece on a string. When he's not busy noisily humming his way around the shared territory, he enjoys telling scary stories to human children, who appreciate them more than dragons do. The stories are terse and sound awkward, as if he makes them up on the spot and isn't able to get his thoughts together fast enough. A favorite for Is Elsewhere's audience is the spooky tale about going to a hot spring, leaving and climbing a mountain as the sun sets, and getting lost, while a wolf finds his home. The story ends there, abruptly, as with most of his other stories. The children are more amused than frightened and look forward to visits from the funny dragon with the fake moustache.
