Swallowtail Dragons are graceful and quick flyers, much like their namesake bird. They are capable of precise aerial acrobatics, and can reach very high altitudes. Because of this, humans observing these dragons are often astonished at how large they are when confronted up close. A Swallowtail’s diet consists of insects and small mammals plentiful in temperate forests. These dragons are also made remarkable by their paper-thin wing membranes, which allow light to pass through, creating an astonishing effect on starry nights.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Far Star is one of the few female Swallowtails in a group of male and female Swallowtails. She is dainty and petite, walking slowly and cautiously around other dragons. Far Star doesn't talk much, but her voice is whispery and soft. How she communicated was what caught the attention of a male Swallowtail named Twisting Fog, and they are happy with each other. Far Star is not that heavy, so Twisting Fog sometimes takes her out for flights at night with her riding him. She loves to count the stars in the sky and knows a few constellations that she tells her mate about.

The female Swallowtail does feel bad about the three mate-less dragons who sleep outside of the cave. They are not allowed in because of their messy lineages and the small amount of females in the group.

While happy with her mate, Far Star wishes that she could somehow bring light into their lives, but she doesn't know what to do.
