Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its eyes glow brightly at night, and it enjoys attacking insects and small animals.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Bounding ahead Marcho almost galloped towards the village ahead in the moonlight, his oversized wings slightly unbalancing the small hatchling. Only a few moments behind was Tastica, his tired owner, her eyes lighting up as she saw the prospect of a warm bed in the distance. Bounding forward, Marcho crashed head over heels into the gate, falling onto his back then sitting up with a confused look. Laughing, Tastica opened the gate and the hatchling trotted through sniffing the air expectantly as he hurried towards the bakers stall. To his dismay, he found it deserted. Everywhere was. Intrigued, the pair began to explore the town, with Marcho's magpie like nature causing certain objects to find their way into Tastica's bag. Walking towards the farmer's fields, Marcho could hear chattering of misfits, hiding behind Tastica's legs as she approached them. Tugging desperately at Tastica's hand, he led her away from the scary pygmies and into the next village where trick or treating awaited.
