Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Captain Steampunk Fixmore, or Captain Fixmore for short, is a young Gold Tinsel dragon. Even though he is in charge of finding fish and other useful resources from the sea for his clan, he acts more like a pirate and looks for treasure instead, even though he's never found any. He has a loyal, ragtag crew whom he treats like family, and an old, rusty ship that his father, Clockwork Fixmore, found in the junkyard. He thinks he's an incredible pirate, and is aspiring to become the Pirate of the Year, which is awarded to the most "piratey" pirate every year, even though he can hardly sail a ship. He has a pet bird named Polly, who just happens to be the last dodo bird alive, and Sapphiro has tried to steal her for research several times. He currently has no specified mate.
