Cheese Dragons are not actually alive. They are enchanted items of food that act almost identically to dragons. They have no need to eat, but they must “live” in humid environments or they will dry out and harden.

It is not well understood what Caprano really is except a somewhat smelly creature who doesn't seem to have an opinion of anything and is far holier than other enchanted cheese critters. She is considered female because she is more responsive to that set of pronouns—fair enough—and other dragons and humans don't have much to say except that she's always welcome to roam around their territories. Curiously, though, there has been a trend of people who react to Caprano with fear and disgust. It has nothing to do with her being big and edible but with the multitude of small holes all over her. No one's been able to adequately explain where such a fear came from, though there are many believable theories. Caprano remembers all the "hotspots" where these types of people are and avoid them.
