Sunbeam Drakes are the diurnal counterparts to Moonglow Drakes, their eggs having been laid during the daylight hours. They are around the size of a small dog, and while docile, can be flighty and easily startled. Most can be found high in treetops enjoying the bright sunlight, tucking themselves away at the first sign of a storm or impending nightfall. Sunbeam Drakes enjoy flying in the light of the sun, and their treetop dances are beautiful, dazzling, and serene.

Though it may appear at first that dragons and drakes have much in common, the two are completely separate species. Drakes are smaller and less intelligent than their cousin species, though both dragons and drakes sit comfortably near the top of the food chain. They are always found bearing antlers and leathery wings. Drakes share many of the same habitats that dragons do, and typically hunt in packs.

Padno is a friendly inhabitant at the human port of Steldon, where she makes her home in a man-made nesting box over an old man's shop. She is fed by the people who pass by and has a very positive, well-known reputation among them, but at the same time she is not too loyal. While friendly and welcome company to most, she wouldn't particularly miss anyone should they cease visiting her, and mostly lives a carefree life shallow of any true friends.
