Heartseeker Dragons are very social creatures that emanate a sweet chocolatey scent. Their captivating perfume easily attracts adult dragons that don’t yet have a mate. Heartseekers use their keen sense of smell to detect solitary dragons and potential mates in the area. By rubbing their fins against objects such as trees and rocks, they leave a scent trail for the other dragons to follow to meet each other. Although these dragons are seen year-round, the scent of a Heartseeker becomes particularly potent during the middle of winter. During this time, a single Heartseeker may play matchmaker to dozens of dragons, but he will also choose a special mate of his own.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

It is a common occurrence for someone to call out a greeting to Oc and for him to answer, then almost immediately cut himself off by saying, "Be right back," and sprint off to finish some errand or other. Many of his casual acquaintances think that "be right back" is an official part of his name, leading many to call him "Oc—BRB". Oc always overpacks his schedule, whether he is trying to arrange courtships for every student in Seven Questions University or help his friend Left and Be Right Back the gemina finish some of their experiments. Oc manages to teach a good number of classes, though throughout the day students keep interrupting him for help because he talks too fast during lectures. He supposedly is working on experiments of his own in the Impractical department, but again, all of his work is hurried and crowded around extracurricular activities. The last thing he published was about "chocolate hears", but had so many typos that nobody could tell what his conclusion was.
