Pyralspite dragons are small, swift dragons that can breathe an intensely hot flame. They get their name from their resemblance to and affinity for garnets of the pyralspite family—they hoard such gems, preferring garnets that match their variant, and can tell the type of garnet from how it tastes. The red-violet variant is referred to as Almandine. Almandine Pyralspites are more aggressive than others of the same breed, and are very witty and love to mock or insult their opponents. They inhabit mountainous areas.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Born in a swath of time and earth mana, Nihileg'o has earned the reputation of being otherworldly, of being a creature beyond the understanding of most creatures, even other dragons. Obviously, being a Pyralspite she doesn't live up to this creed, but the tales about her continue on regardless.

The reason for these legends is due to the time mana dust that coats Nihileg'o's wings, which has a very mild slowdown affect for any sentient creature she comes into contact with. It comes from her mother, Yul'tulolly, an Aeon Wyvern, whose ties with time magic have been passed down to Nihileg'o, although Nihileg'o still uses earth mana for her everyday needs, and has no control over the effects of this dust.

Due to this time dust, some of Nihileg'o's garnets have been enchanted over the centuries, making them highly sought as collectors items and magical ingredients. People often say possessing one can lead to a longer life.
