Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Minelti is a very depressed dragon. Some would describe her as a mix between her father and uncle. She is outwardly prideful, but inwardly considers herself a liar. She isn't cruel like her uncle, but she ignores others feelings while she feels sorry for herself. She finds no consolation from her friends, as they tease her for having such odd family. Her only joy in life is a small glade she came upon one day in the rain. Although it is foggy and desolate, the forest around makes her feel safe and secure. She loves it there, and stays for hours sleeping in its midst. Later she found out that no one ever travels there, because there is a myth that a terrible dragon that can control the weather lives there. She was startled at this at first, but she has never seen the dragon, or any signs of it, so she stays. A few dragons have tried to cheer her up, and take her into their home and make her feel welcome, but they never succeeded. She just passes her days in a rather calm misery.
