Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Niranjan is a dimwitted dragon, and he freely reminds people that he is stubborn and slow to learn, and he certainly won't improve with age. He plods around clumsily, challenges dragons to fights, and asks the same questions over and over. Whenever he is assigned to a chore, he always fills the allotted time completing it and then complains how hard it was because he is not smart. Niranjan is often seen with the sole golden wyvern and kingcrowne in the territory, whom he insists he is bullying because he doesn't befriend eggheads.
