Sapphire Dragons were so named for their brilliant color, which is reminiscent of the gemstone. This breed was historically hunted for their scales; even long after, they remain distrustful of humans. Normally a Sapphire is not very aggressive, but they will defend themselves vigorously if under attack. Their diet consists mainly of fruit, with smaller portions of large insects and other invertebrates. Males woo females with vocalizations similar to bird songs. Sapphire Dragons are very loyal to their mates, and it is not unusual that they pair for life.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Gemnastics is the ruler of roughly one-third of her province, a position obtained through a loophole in a sub-clause in the Code about political families and road disputes. According to reports and general community buzz, she's not considered that great of a ruler. Many of her ideas would be harmful or inefficient, and her advisors talk her out of them. She does like to blame a lot of the ills in the land, from pickpocketing to floods to salt shortages, on humans. Many denizens don't like humans, so they make convenient enemies. Gemnastics is famous for seldom directly stating what she wants her subordinates to do. She'd say, "Wouldn't it be great if ABCD happened. ABCD sounds nifty" and wait for them to get the hint. Speaking vaguely and in metaphors is how she dodges culpability, but it also, unfortunately for her, means she's unable to get members of the Watch and Flying Corp to do anything, since they only respond to direct orders.
