Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It has a somber color, but is surprisingly playful.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

While Lagardi's paternal relatives reside in pumpkins, he lives in a pumpkin dragon. The little hatchling was abandoned shortly after he hatched and has very few memories of the first ten years of his life. The earliest thing he recalls is wandering around a garden for some unspecified amount of time and finding a recently deceased pumpkin dragon, which he believed to be one of his parents. "Of course! Mummy and Daddy didn't abandon me," he reasoned. "They died, and this must be Daddy." Feeling sorry for his "father", Lagardi decided to stay near the carcass forever to honor it. Many years and many renovations later, his home is a somewhat macabre hut made of bones with skin draping over the frame. A bit of magic keeps his hut from deteriorating, and he eats the ants and flies it attracts.
