Kingcrownes are a mysterious and proud species, possessing some of the most beautiful and reflective scales of all dragons. Despite this, what is sought after most is not their scales, but the silk-like hairs that grow along their head, neck, and elbows. The hairs themselves have a magical shine, and are thought to have powerful healing properties when used in potions. The hairs of a Kingcrowne are even believed to bring good fortune to those who possess them. Though it is obvious that these dragons possess magical abilities, it is still not entirely clear what they are fully capable of. Most of a Kingcrowne’s time is spent grooming itself, keeping its scales and fur in top condition.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Cosmetologist was raised in a village of non-magical or low-magic dragons, so she's largely unaware of the extent of her magical ability. When she was small, her cohort would attribute odd occurrences to her, and some grew envious that she could seemingly do anything she "put her mind to". The adults sometimes had to step in when the stories became too fantastic or mean. Cosmetologist lives alone in an arid highland whose name she doesn't know, with lots of pretty rocks and shimmery stuff that occasionally seeps into her cave. She never seems to find herself in any danger. If something worrisome does come to her or something bad does happen, she's always strong enough, or smart enough, or quick enough to thwart it. Cosmetologist occasionally wonders if she should travel to one of the big networks or cities to find some magic people to help her learn about herself, but she's been putting that off because she heard those communities use currency, and she has nothing of value to trade.
