Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Bronze Heart was the first of a new type of dragon to grace Kaini's cave. He came as an egg, held in the arms of a friend, given to Kaini as a kindness.

All the other dragons took immediate interest in Bronze; he was something they'd never seen before. They each took a turn playing with him as a hatchling, seeing how quick he was and how he grew. They decided he was similar to the Metals, golds and silvers, but a little more divine. His scales shone unlike anything they'd ever seen.

By the time he grew up, he knew every dragon in Kaini's clan by name, and was close to them all. But none kept his attention like Allium, the female Spring dragon he came to adore. She became his mate, much to envy of most of the females in the clan.

Nevertheless, Bronze was and is still much loved, and Allium never leaves his side.
