Stone Dragons have a tough outer covering made of a stone-like material. They eat rocks, using the minerals they contain for nourishment and to keep up their stone outer shell. They rarely move, and are the heaviest of all types of dragons. Although they have wings, indicating flight ability, no one has ever seen a stone dragon flying.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Hematytus SureStone (after the gemstone: Hematite) was the sixth dragon to join the clan, and despite his troubled beginnings, has flourished and grown to become the largest (and heaviest) of all the dragons within the clan. He succumbed to an illness during the clan's migration to the new clan cave and is the reason that The Clan Mother refuses to entertain the idea of ever relocating again.  No one is certain exactly what happened during the journey since The Clan Mother chokes up, her eyes filling with tears whenever the topic arises. Hematytus rarely speaks, and few have ever seen him move from his post beside Sphaleritia at the cave entrance. Many of the clan hatchlings play games, trying to entice the seemingly sleeping giant to awaken.  Despite their efforts, none have done so to date, although rumors among the clan elders suggest that you can occasionally glimpse what seems to be a smile at the hatchlings attempts.
