Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

The youngest of his brothers, Ioseb has had several health issues over his short life, from smallpox to a forever-scarred arm from an accident. While not in the best physical shape, he is very sharp, with a knack for poetry and a great revolutionary streak. He has a lot of potential as a leader, and his young mind is full of ideas, and he has enough of a reputation already that the authorities regard him with suspicion. Ioseb is considering changing his name once he's of age; he'd really like to be known as a dragon of steel.
