Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Puruma mimics people a lot, and he snidely mimics people when angry. He complains often about his old age and how painful it is to be smarter than everyone else but not appreciated for it. Even the oldest members of Village Victor have never seen a dragon like him before, so they don't know how this breed behaves and should be raised. His caretakers don't know if his sullen, sour demeanor is a whatever-breed-he-is thing or an adolescent thing. People often wonder how many mistakes they're making and whether they should even be taking care of and ensuring Puruma's survival. Maybe he'll kill them all when he's older, or maybe he'll find he likes this town and will defend it alongside the townsfolk. He had said repeatedly when he was very young that he wanted to be an elemental scholar, though he might've changed his mind by now.
