Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It always seems to be picking over its scales.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

As a member of the Westernscale family, Istophen has probably gone through more eccentric situations than the average human goes through in a lifetime. He may have been born on a Sunday with scattered showers, but his father didn't miss the chance to stand on top of the cave and present him like the new king of the lions while Bitza wasn't watching. He wore diamond-studded diapers for three weeks until Bitza burned the human objects. Yes, this baby has gone through quite a lot, all the while not even knowing how to speak. Bitza can only wish that Istophen will someday become like her instead of his eccentric siblings and father, and sometimes when she sees his blank, almost bitterly sarcastic stare and half-open 'are you serious' jaw drop, she has hope.
