Holiday dragons are a very mysterious breed. They are only seen during winter, and even then it is hard to catch a glimpse of one. They are responsible for the general cheer that spreads during the holidays. In essence, they are the “Spirits of Winter.”

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Despite her given name, Grouchy Holly is not actually a Grouchy Dragon, but is fun and loves life. Despite the high pedestal her Dragon Master, Cerimonster put her on, she is not as prideful as Holly Kisses is, and is much more reverent to the other dragons, such as Grandmeister, Ceri's wisest dragon. Grouchy Holly had her given name derived from her born name. As with all of Ceri's dragons she has the opportunity for three names; Born, given and taken. She was born with the name GrOUY, thus given Grouchy Holly. Although she decided to take on the name Joy, especially when meeting new dragons, or friends of Cerimonsters. Some of her favorite pastimes include berry hunting and playing friendly pranks on Cerimonster.
