Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

The Amaran Emperor was well known by most for his cruelty. A once gentle soul driven into madness by the murders of his family, he ruled his newly acquired dominion with relentless malice, slaughtering and enslaving humans wherever he could find them. To much of the world he was a monster, insane, sadistic, arrogant--

--but to a select few, he was very kind.

His children were the only thing left in the world that he loved, and one especially in particular; Ashmedais, one of his golden sons. Protecting his son fiercely against all attempts to harm him, teaching him in the ways of the world, and always instilling him with his own hate, the young dragon grew up to be nearly as vile as his father--in ways. While his cruelty towards humans is boundless, he cares deeply for the welfare of all other races, often tempering his father's hostility towards the weak and quick to inflict retribution wherever humans have done them ill.
