Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Once a gentle and regal creature, this male served as the leader of a peaceful mountain country, guiding his people forward into prosperity with wisdom and kindness.

But not everyone found it suiting that a dragon should lead humans.

One fateful day both his mate and child were slaughtered in front of him, the gold dragon taken by surprise and overpowered, awakening from unconsciousness just as the last glimmer of life left their faces. His terrible agony turned slowly to cunning madness, the dragon slowly but surely stripping human citizens of their power before he struck. Claiming the title of emperor for himself, and augmenting his already prestigious magical powers with demonic strength, he led an army of dragons against the humans and ensured their total enslavement within the region. Five centuries have since passed, and he still reigns, a sadistic shadow of his former self. His dark reach extends ever outward, his goal simple and cruel: to eliminate the race that betrayed him.
