Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Cromulent likes making up words. She feels very clever when she tells the big dragons about her neologisms because unlike the silly little kids, she actually considers the parts and how the new word sounds. She's particularly fond of "clerestory", "jocose", "obsequy", and "fleer". By coincidence, those words already exist, but nothing's stopping her from trying. Rarely, Cromulent pretends nonsense words like "antebellum", "Sisyphean", and "phishing" are legitimate, insisting that maybe they don't make sense here or now, but somewhere, some time in the future, they will. There is no doubt Cromulent is an eccentric young dragon.
