Stone Dragons have a tough outer covering made of a stone-like material. They eat rocks, using the minerals they contain for nourishment and to keep up their stone outer shell. They rarely move, and are the heaviest of all types of dragons. Although they have wings, indicating flight ability, no one has ever seen a stone dragon flying.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

As a youngster, Spelman heard the same quip about her name again and again, the one about how unfitting it is because she's no man, and she can't spell, and her parents must be really dumb to name her such. She was pretty unresponsive to these jabs, and other hatchlings would soon stop teasing because it was boring failing all the time to get a rise out of her. When Spelman, on her 24th birthday, joined a community of humans to get a job and learn stuff, she was actually a little disappointed that nobody did so much as a head tilt upon learning her name. Her job is to stand still at the west side of town center and greet people, both things she's naturally good at.
