Cassare Dragons are known for their magic-deadening abilities. Though not a conscious ability, a large field surrounds the dragon through which magic is passively nullified. This field is strongest near the dragon itself, and falls off with distance. The absence of magic often makes other creatures avoid them, though some will have the opposite reaction and seek refuge instead. It has also caused them to be hunted, as though the field is severely weakened once dead, their bones and scales retain some of the effect. Possessing such an item is considered a necessity by those who expect to face hostile magic.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

User Description

Dab Hand is one of the sitters for hatchlings who can't control their magic but are too young to begin lessons. He gets in arguments and fights with other dragons over his nulling ability, but he's softer around the kids. He used to dread mealtime, when many of the young ones refused to eat their food, or worse, tossed it somewhere (not their mouths). "You must eat. This is good for you" didn't work. "I know you're hungry. If you don't eat, you'll be hungrier later" didn't work, either. Nor did "You know lion cubs sometimes starve because the adults eat all the food. Think about how lucky you are". Eventually, Dab Hand had had enough of picking up and eating bits of discarded meat and greens. He stared one particularly impudent kingcrowne down. "Waste food and I'll WASTE YOU!" That worked. No hatchling dared waste food ever again. Maybe Dab Hand is a bit forceful sometimes, but he's the only one who can keep the kiddies from damaging things with magic, so he remains their sitter.
