Spirit Ward Dragons are a special breed that ward off evil spirits—at least, that’s what the legends say. During nighttime festivals, people love to see these dragons, because they believe that the dragons guard against evil spirits. The dragons are dark-colored, but glow with a flame-colored internal light that has an intensity that they control.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Morella works as a sorter, and during night shifts, she emanates a pleasant, almost happy aura. She has to be indoors or otherwise in a safe, enclosed area due to her condition. Because of an accident at the Rolling Magi Tower when she was 22, she can turn into four gorals and a curtain rod. Rather, she uncontrollably turns into four gorals and a curtain rod sometimes, and the exact trigger causing it is unknown. Whenever she turns, she retains her memories but not her intellect. The bovids congregate around the curtain rod until the magic spike wears off or someone turns her back. Since Morella's used to it and near colleagues or family, it's merely a big inconvenience, and she knows her situation could be worse. One of the wizards informed her soon after the accident that transformation was one of two possible outcomes; the other was getting bisected. Morella is a cheerful, optimistic dragon and thinks it'd be great if a cure can be found, but it's not the end of the world if not.
