Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Ember is the leader of the Silverly Family. While she can be compassionate, she has a quick temper and does not forgive wrongs easily. She can hold a grudge for centuries and has even driven her youngest daughter to run away from the Cave. In addition to her horrible habit of holding grudges, Ember tends to rush into things without thinking them through, a trait that has earned her a few battle scars and has put her loved ones into unnecessary danger more than once.
