Guardian Dragons have large shields on the end of their tails. Although the shields appear to be heavy, they are light, yet nearly unbreakable. Guardian Dragons use their tail-shields, as well as their wings, to deflect attacks and protect others. Often, they will guard the eggs and hatchlings of a nest while others are away. They are generally peaceful, and will not retaliate unless necessary. They have no need to forage or hunt, as they are fed by those they protect.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

While most of his cousins are courageous warriors fighting for the good of the clan, Connadh is not particularly brave and prefers to stay at home, deep within the system of caves the south-western branch of his clan occupies. In a wide central space he keeps a large fire going, around which the hatchlings gather to play or listen to one of the many ancient tales Connadh knows by heart. Adult dragons also know to find him for support, be it to heal a physical injury or ease a mental pain. With his warm and loving heart, Connadh can calm and reassure anyone.

For a long time he thought he would never find a mate and have offspring himself, a downside of being not very outgoing. When Coisinn, a striking female Silver, wandered into the clan's territory he was sure one of the muscular warriors of the clan would soon conquer her as a mate, but to his surprise she kept all of them at bay and could be found more and more often by his cozy campfire.
