Lunar Heralds are deeply attuned to the two moons of Valkemare, Aurax and Cirion. Strictly nocturnal, they draw energy from moonlight and will only hunt when the moons have waned. When breeding, the amount of moonlight the parents receive from each moon will determine the color of the egg produced. When a Lunar Herald is struck by direct moonlight, an illusion of multiple wings may appear. Witnessing a Lunar Herald’s illusory wings is commonly believed to be a sign of good fortune.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Aurentina was originally from a large clan and was often overwhelmed by the politics between members. After accidentally irritating some older, more powerful dragons and getting cursed, she fled to hide her embarrassment—the curse made her a were-chair: she transforms into seating under twin-full moons. Eventually she met a sunset named Veeltu, and though he couldn't lift the curse his simple songs and way of life have made her enamoured with him. The two live together in the mountains near Veeltu's family, but far away from other dragons.

Aurentina has learned to sing, and even composed her own song. It goes:
