Greater Spotted Drakes are found in open pine and oak forests. They are among the larger end of the spectrum, but are quite laid back and feed mostly on plant material. They are ambush predators and rely on their dappled markings for camouflage. Females are usually larger than males, though males are brighter in color. In the breeding season the male attracts a mate by making loud, low-pitched bugles, followed by an aerial courtship dance as proof of his quality as a father to her offspring.

Though it may appear at first that dragons and drakes have much in common, the two are completely separate species. Drakes are smaller and less intelligent than their cousin species, though both dragons and drakes sit comfortably near the top of the food chain. They are always found bearing antlers and leathery wings. Drakes share many of the same habitats that dragons do, and typically hunt in packs.

Saunji was stolen as an egg and has never been outside the town on her own. She completely relies on her humans for basic things and seems to be missing the survival instincts that any drake would typically have. She hates water and comes into contact with it only when she's thirsty, and even so, she's very careful and stares at her bowl like the water could rise up and splash her. She would rather go hungry for a day than get a bath, having no understanding of what a bath is for. Saunji is sure her master can make water fall from the sky. The humans control every aspect of her life, so it's reasonable to think that they can use their great power to turn outside into bath time. When it rains, Saunji stares at the closest human to her with a deep sorrow, wondering what she did to make her master punish her like this.
