Oh look, it’s a cute baby... dragon? It’s impossible to see much of its body through all the flames.

And look! It’s finally grown some sort of bizarre hide. It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Snek is playful and mellow compared to any other young omen wyrm, and he can't stand things being the same too long. If he deems something has turned boring, he'll change things up, usually by setting it aflame with his fire magic. Sometimes, though, he will use other facets of magic to create, so sometimes, people are surprised to see green plants around his guardians' cave. Despite being an adept mana handler, Snek often has trouble turning his own flames on and off. The only way to guarantee they go away is to bring in a nullifier such as a cassare. He has sometimes accidentally set some of his bushes and grass on fire when he lost control of his body, and seeing them burn when they're not "boring" yet greatly upsets Snek.
