Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Roark is the firstborn son of Aldith and Donohue and has much to live up to. Driven by his mother to strive to be the best, Roark has for the most part complied, spending most of his hatchling years training hard at combat and hunting. He is a capable and solid fighter, though he lacks his own opinions on things and will very often blindly follow the directions of his overbearing mother. Because of his mother's bloodlines, Roark is pressured by his mother to find and impress the best dragon mate he can find, especially because he is the only male dragon in the clan to have an amiable relationship with the silver Rayein Damicke. However, he would rather be free of Aldith's badgering, and be left in peace to laze under the moonlight beneath his favorite apple tree.
