Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. This dull-colored hatchling enjoys playing in shallow tidepools, but it is too weak to swim for long.

Its newly developed fins allow it to swim for longer periods, and its skin has also become more vibrant. Perhaps something is happening?

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Nyq is curious and likes to explore, a trait she's had since she hatched. Her parents are glad that she's much more aware of the world's dangers and her own limitations than as a newborn, although as an adolescent, she often swims away to check out that thing in the distance AND to get away from Mother and Father, who are embarrassing and a damper on her life. As much as she enjoys wandering away to look for objects and individuals of interest, she always returns home, since she greatly fears what bigger, nastier creatures could do to a lone aqualis incapable of magic. Nyq hopes to join a group of dragons when she's a few years older and travel the world's oceans like the boys do, although that also seems unlikely because she thinks the group members will have expectations of her that she can't fulfill, but traveling alone to unknown places seems unsafe and therefore isn't an option.
