Seasonal Dragons take on the characteristics of the season during which they are born. Thus, eggs that are laid in spring match the pink flowers and green buds of spring, and those that are laid in the summer grow to depict the bright green of the forest trees and the yellow of the sun. Eggs laid in autumn display the bright colors of leaves falling from trees, and those that are laid during winter take on the appearance of the icy snow.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

A Dame was called "Adam" when she was adopted, but when her parents realized their baby was a girl, they just changed pronunciation of the vowels, and that was good. She and her 14 brothers and sisters were raised by a two humans and two dragons. Despite the large family size, their home life was relatively peaceful, and since A Dame isn't the brightest, she didn't think her childhood was that unusual and didn't pick up the sometimes disparaging way other dragons and humans referred to her family. It wasn't until she was grown that she really learned to appreciate how much her parents worked to ensure the family got along and everyone was healthy and successful. A Dame's friends and colleagues now ask a lot of questions about her homeland and family members, which is sometimes annoying if she instead wants to talk about work or weekly plans or something.
