Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Carmilla was the first of the "vampiric children" of Dracul. She knew the bite could have killed her before she hatched, but she didn't care: she loved Dracul with all her heart. (Some say before the bite, she was an abandoned pink, found by a lonely, sad Dracul. Others say Carmilla was an unlucky Valentine, but not even Dracul would have dared to bite a rare Valentine egg). Her sire loves her more than his life.

Carmilla supports the actions of Dracul, but her desperate desire to have children has created some problems. When she was younger, she tried to steal the eggs from other females. When she realized that trying to steal and bite eggs from her cave was suicide, she disappeared only to return after a few weeks with an egg. She repeated these thefts several times, biting the eggs herself or offering the eggs to Dracul to bite. Now she is the mother of a little, loyal family of dragons, with four adult "children" and two forever hatchlings.
