Stratos Dragons resemble sea dragons, but these massive creatures are far too buoyant to swim in the water. Instead, Stratos Dragons use air mana accumulated in their scales to live high up in the skies from the moment they mature enough to leave the ground, only ever returning to the ground in open spaces or very high elevations to lay their eggs. The underside of a Stratos is covered in reflective scales that slowly shift colors throughout the day to mirror the sky and the clouds above, serving as camouflage. Young Stratos consume anything that will fit in their mouths, and are especially drawn to air mana, but adult Stratos are difficult to observe and not much is known about what they eat or where they continue to gain mana. Corpses of grown Stratos dragons have been found with an incredible amount of crystallized light and air mana embedded in their backs, and it is thought that they fly so high up as they would otherwise be a delicacy to many of the more mana-hungry dragon breeds.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

User Description

Stratosavarius once had a violin she got from the land far below. She learned to tune and play it despite not having hands by using her air magic to pull at the strings. She was fascinated by the wood grain and the fine strings and many of her friends and family would gather to hear her play near the top of the local rising falls. The strings sometimes wore out, so she periodically came down to the ground to replace them. One day a galvanic wyvern attacked Stratosavarius on one of these jaunts. She escaped with her life, but only by smashing her precious instrument on the wyvern's head. Without it, she could not make music. No tunes echoed through the airborne lakes. She was sad.

She drifted down to the mountain peaks, where she met a fell dragon eating a mountaintop. She dared to ask why. He was eating the mountain because it was what he had. She realised she had air magic, which she could use to recreate the sounds of her violin. She now plays music among the rising falls once more.
