And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

You Lark lives with an Arsani who likes making presents known as "Valentins" (because they come in tins). Not long ago, he felt he was grown-up enough to get a job, and he was given a Special Job by his honorary auntie Arsani: repaint her Valentine sign. Every year, the paint starts to peel off here and there, so You Lark touches it up. Since this year's paint and last year's paint and so on are never exactly the same color, the sign is a mix of hues. Individuals new to the community sometimes add an "e" to "Valentins", so he paints over that, too. It's such a special job that whenever he says it, it booms in listeners' minds.
