Horse Dragons have equine-shaped bodies and hooves instead of claws, which allow them to be fast runners. They specialize in running takeoffs, which are quicker than taking off from a stand-still. Horse dragons are able to stalk their prey from the ground then quickly execute an aerial attack for the kill.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Horse of Babylon, usually called HoB because he doesn't know what a "Babylon" is, lives in the large moat of a fort and sometimes eats people that fall in. Strangers to the area don't expect a horse dragon to be wading around in there, which makes them a lot more thrilling to catch. He wishes he had some sort of quick-drawing device so he could decorate the nearby trees with pictures of his victims' faces. Knights are especially tasty and sink more easily than the common guard or escapee, although HoB finds the metal and leather wrappers annoying to peel. The fort's owners have learned not to introduce crocodiles in the moat. While HoB is no match for them in the water and has a hard time telling the crocs apart from regular debris, he usually figures out how to dispatch them in other ways, and then he flies into the castle to complain violently about the unwanted neighbors.
