And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young drakes are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own.

Despite the efforts of her owners, Statehood's instinct to dine on varied substances which may or may not be food remains strong. She eats practically anything she can get her mouth around and works on the principle that she must eat everything she encounters because she might very well be starved of food the very next minute and should eat as much as possible right now. Also, if it turns out not to be palatable, she can just puke it up, usually in the cave and other places where her owner least wants her to soil. The owners' neighbors often question if it's worth the trouble to keep a pet.
