The Freckled Dragon is a small, cunning breed known for their obsessive hoarding habits. Males and females are visually identical, but one can tell the difference between genders depending on what they collect—males only collect green-colored items, while females only collect red-colored items. Though their wings are too small to sustain flight, these dragons can glide for a short distance. Instead of flying, Freckled Dragons travel by running at swift speeds for long distances. They are typically docile, but can become violent if their treasure is threatened.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Cogroach is jovial, sociable, and charming, but she doesn't have friends, only acquaintances and associates. Though a freckled dragon, she looks like the sort who smiles harmlessly and walks with a waver but really has a talent for impaling jugulars. Her motives for doing things for others is not clear, since she says herself that she lacks scruples "80 percent of the time" and doesn't personally care about whatever folks she works for, only that they compensate her. The tasks she takes on usually pay handsomely, whether it's food or jewels, so maybe it really is just about the material goods. The humans in nearby territories for some reason value these rectangular pieces of paper with pictures on them, and Cogroach is the only dragon in her neighborhood who gladly accepts those for a job. Others don't know what she does with most of the papers, though it's a well-known fact that she picks out the red ones to decorate her lair.
