Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Reign of Giants lives in a land where spring and fall last roughly 20 days and summer and winter roughly 16. It rains excessively in spring, and summer can get ridiculously hot and winter ridiculously cold. It's a wonder vegetation grows at all—not only is there a variety of plants, they grow at a surprisingly accelerated rate. There are "normal" animals such as buzzards and odder ones such as electric goats. Each season has a stone dragon-sized creature called a "giant" that is awake and about, destroying things and making whatever it sees its enemy. Still, Reign of Giants is quite happy to be there. She has become a genius in regards to building contraptions, and she mostly ignores the giants and has many ways to combat the strange climate and even stranger monsters.
