Stone Dragons have a tough outer covering made of a stone-like material. They eat rocks, using the minerals they contain for nourishment and to keep up their stone outer shell. They rarely move, and are the heaviest of all types of dragons. Although they have wings, indicating flight ability, no one has ever seen a stone dragon flying.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

The Elders approached Lady Nerruse early one spring morning to discuss a matter of grave import. The clan was now 25 strong and their humble cave of beginnings was simply too small. Nerruse thought on it and said not to worry; she would find a way to make their home comfortable again. Mere days later, a huge gray egg appeared in the cave and Slate Brackenridge was welcomed into the clan. Even as a hatchling he was massive, with an appetite to match. In no time at all the cave doubled, then tripled in size as Slate ate and grew. As an adult he is far too large to stay in the cave so he simply tunneled into the ground to make his own den beneath the cave. Visiting Slate's subterranean home is a favorite game of the bolder hatchlings, and he always seems amused by their cautious awe.
