It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Known as a loafer, Streetcar does as little work as he can. Whatever a "street car" is, Streetcar is unlike one. Lying atop city hall is his favorite activity, and the mayor and council once tried, then quickly stopped, asking him to find another spot. He can remember on which days which meetings occurred in the building and topics addressed, and when people ask what the meetings were about, he offers a summary or the full agenda and decisions made, all without moving from his rooftop lounge. Occasionally, the council members send Streetcar fruit from the government farm and any leftovers from nearby eateries for doing this useful work that no one asked him to do. Some people wonder if they should petition to consider him a city employee due to taxes being spent feeding him, but doing so will likely cause him to stop answering meeting queries.
