Holiday dragons are a very mysterious breed. They are only seen during winter, and even then it is hard to catch a glimpse of one. They are responsible for the general cheer that spreads during the holidays. In essence, they are the “Spirits of Winter.”

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

One of the pickier dragons in the cave, Balthazar finds himself unable to settle with one mate, flitting through the female dragons in the cave, yet never forming an attachment to one particular one. Seeing as the clans traditionally mate for life, this has been the subject of much gossip, as those wonder why the females put up with it, or why the cave's leaders even allow it, but females are attracted to him in the hope they will be the one he settles with. Alas  this is never the case, as in the blink of an eye his affections will change, and the old one will simply have to watch and hope he loves them again, as few would mate with them now. When his affections are on a dragon he will be the charming romantic, serenading them and bringing the bushels or roses, but his passion ebbs as fast as it flows, and before long he would die for another. While Balthazar claims he is only trying to find love, cynics believe he is simply fickle and hope that one day he will be taught a lesson.
