Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It is so full of energy that you have a hard time keeping up with it.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Raffu seems like just another mindless hatchling taking part in Brippan's schemes, but in fact... Aw, who am I kidding, he's sort of an idiot. But he's a very chipper idiot, and all of the dragons love him, despite having to repeatedly explain everything to him. Okay, so Skale finds him kind of annoying. Oh, and Wylemm has no patience for him. And he keeps messing up the simple orders Brippan gives him. Atrophy likes to call him "Retardosaurus Rex." Maybe "love" is too strong of a word.
