Pitfire Dragons are an infernal breed, reveling in the suffering and misery of others. These dragons are not known to be strong magic users, nor are they capable of flight. However, these weaknesses are made up for in the extent of their physical prowess. They have little respect for most other creatures, including members of their own family group; however, those that have fought or fallen in battle against formidable foes are highly revered. They are constantly on the move, always on the hunt for food or a skirmish. The malevolent nature of Pitfires is feared by many, and the damage they leave in their wake is a sure sign for those to be wary. Pitfire activity has been noted to increase as the weather grows colder and the nights grow longer.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Little 0l' 0no has a problem: he wants to become all red and fiery like some of the other pitfires he has met, but so far, he is too good a fighter! He has yet to enter into battle with an opponent or opponents strong enough to force the transformation of which he has heard so much... from Secretly a Tatterdrake, whose death and ascension came about not from battle, but because he choked on bubblegum. 0no doesn't know the truth, only the aggrandised tales his peer tells to hide his embarrassing secret.

Rumour has it that, when given the riddle about "a box with no hinges, key nor a lid", 0no answered, "Bananas." He went on to explain, "it's obvious. Their raucous calls are in no key I've ever heard, they're all unhinged, and they're full of bananas-the-fruit. Bananas are 'golden' yellow." Clearly, his understanding of so-called "bananas" came from Madder Jungle neotropicals.
