Royal Blue dragons are a nocturnal breed who prefer to live high in the mountains near slow-moving water that reflects the night sky. Although quite capable of defending themselves, they are peaceful by nature and will avoid a fight whenever possible.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Gieren, while a cold and calculating individual, serves as the Master Springheart's main peace-keeper. She settles disputes between the other dragons and puts to rest any conflicts that may arise before they get out of hand. She is given a surprising amount of respect, given her youth. Even so, she does not make friends easily—she was in a hurry to grow up, and did not spend time with hatchlings around her age when she could. She has developed a slightly frosty bearing about her, and only stands watch when not on duty. The one dragon that she absolutely cannot stand to be around is Toxidle; that is her one weakness as a fair judge. With Toxidle, Gieren's patience is always short-lived. Toxidle is her biggest problem.
