Pink Dragons are primarily herbivores and only eat meat during the mating season, when mates will exchange kills. When it is not breeding season, pink dragons spend most of their time incubating eggs and caring for their clan’s young. Due to their feminine color, it was traditionally thought that pink dragons were a strictly female breed, but this is not true.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Velyngar, while not the first dragon to be born at Firebright Weyr, was one of the first not to leave once fully grown.  He doesn't mind the rather austere living conditions, since he can find beauty in the simplest of objects—a pebble, a blade of grass, a twig.  Velyngar finds the greatest satisfaction in tending his vegetable garden, and sees every sign of new growth as a major achievement.  When not working on his garden, Velyngar can often be found with Zyggas, being one of the few dragons who can keep the autumn dragon in check, and Zyggas often repays his attention by thinking up improvements for Velyngar's garden.
