And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Stonewatcher the Handsome was named because he inherited his looks from his mother, making him easily the most handsome hatchling out of his play group. Shortly after he passed a test his father gave him to show that he would also do well in battle, he was allowed to hunt by himself. He was unlucky in a showdown with a male lion and the only way the white dragon's had to save him was to put a spell on him that prevented him from aging. He is no longer as handsome as he was and is bitter about it.
