White Dragons are pacifists and specialize in extremely strong healing magic. The only limit of this magic is that it can’t bring back the dead. They only eat plants and never kill living things.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Being born a mute, Areto has no way to communicate with other dragons, either verbally or telepathically. The only one who can understand her is the human female who regularly visits the cave and considered part of the family. Areto treasures her friendship with this girl as she alone in the cave knows of Areto's secret.

Areto can not cast any of the healing spells that other white dragons are so adept at, but her true ability more than makes up for this loss.

She has the unique ability to purify the souls of the dead and place the souls of those who did not have the chance to prove their nature in life into new bodies, giving them a second chance.

Many priests and wizards who live far from the territory know of her power, and pray to her under the guise of the 'Spinner of Souls'. They know that the task she has been given is difficult and hope their prayers give her strength and comfort.

Areto is accompanied by blue butterflies who act as couriers for the souls she is tending to.
