And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

For years, Lunar Moonbeam and his mate, Solar Sunbeam, were denied the possibility of having a hatchling of their own. So the birth of their daughter was seen as a glorious blessing to the pair. The small hatchling was named Gleaming Miracle, a testament to how her parents viewed her birth, and from the instant she hatched, Lunar Moonbeam and Solar Sunbeam doted on her. While one might think this would inspire the jealousy of Shining Moonglow, a small silver hatchling Lunar Moonbeam and Solar Sunbeam had adopted when a biological child seemed impossible, he shows a surprising amount of maturity about the situation. In fact, anyone who sees Shining Moonglow and Gleaming Miracle together and bears witness to the love between the two hatchlings would swear they actually were biological siblings.
